Heather Schilling, Ed.D.
FOUNDER AND CHAIR
Dr. Heather Schilling is a lifelong educator, with over 35 years of teaching at the high school and collegiate levels. For the last 24 years, Heather has served as a professor and Director of Clinical Experiences at Manchester University located in North Manchester, Indiana. She has been an active in her community, including several years as an officer of the Indiana Reading Professors, an advisory council under the Indiana State Literacy Association, of which she has also served as President. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Progressive Education Network, a national non-profit. Heather currently lives in North Manchester with her golden retriever and cat, a community she cares deeply for, and where her children, Lucas and Elizabeth, spent their young adult lives. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her son and his wife, Ali.
In 2019, after having lived five years with a stage two brain tumor, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, and Heather spent the next two years caring for her daughter. Since Elizabeth’s death on December 21, 2021, Heather has turned her grief into action, living out Elizabeth’s mantra “adjust your sails” and founding the Elizabeth Schilling Adjust Your Sails Foundation, Inc. She hopes that sharing Elizabeth’s story can raise money for brain cancer research and inspire others to face life’s challenges with hope and resilience.
Will Harris
VICE CHAIR & TREASURER
Will has 10 years of data analysis and Fair Lending experience with Park National Bank. He is from Hebron, Ohio, and currently resides in Newark, Ohio. Will graduated from Ohio University in 2012. In his free time, Will enjoys spending time outdoors and on road trips with his dog, Penny Lane. His other hobbies include paddle boarding, golfing, woodworking, and time with friends and family that usually involves a craft beer in honor of one of Liz’s favorite activities.
Will and Liz met in 2015 and made a home in Newark with their rescue dog, Penny Lane. Will joined the board to fulfill Liz’s wish to continue to help others and further the research efforts to one day have a cure for brain cancer and tumors.
Brian Schilling
BOARD MEMBER
Brian Schilling is Vice President of Engineering for Pike Lumber Company. Prior to joining Pike Lumber Company in 1999, Brian was an electrician, a general contractor, and a firefighter. Currently, Brian serves as President of the national Hardwood Manufacturer’s Association, where he previously served as an executive director. He has served on various church-related boards as well as 14 years on the Board of Trustees for the Manchester Community School Corporation. He and his wife, Stacy, live on and operate the 1854 family homestead, growing corn and soybeans. Brian’s children, Elizabeth and Lucas, were the 6th generation to live on the homestead.
On January 19, 2014, his daughter, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after arriving in Denmark for a semester studying abroad. Over the course of her health journey, Elizabeth’s family was inspired countless times by other patients, caregivers, and caring medical professionals. Inspired by Elizabeth’s consistently quick “yes” when asked to participate in research studies, Brian spends time in a leadership role for the Elizabeth Schilling Adjust Your Sails Foundation, Inc.
Brian’s support of The Elizabeth Schilling Adjust Your Sails Foundation, Inc. is founded in honoring the spirit of his daughter’s passion for living and her desire to contribute to future advancements in the treatment of brain cancer by raising important funds to support brain tumor and brain cancer research.
Andrea Bacho
SECRETARY
Andrea Bacho is a Senior Client Executive at Calibrity, an enterprise software consultancy. Over the 10 years prior to her current role, she has held various sales and production leadership positions in technology-focused organizations, where she has excelled in driving revenue growth, building high-performing teams, and implementing innovative solutions to complex business challenges. She is also an active member of her community, volunteering her time and resources to various charitable organizations.
Her experience spans across multiple functional areas, including, sales, operations, and business development. She is a highly motivated and experienced professional with a passion for driving growth and delivering exceptional results. She is a strategic thinker with a proven track record of success in various industries, including technology and consulting. Andrea is a natural leader and mentor, and she is passionate about helping others achieve their full potential.
Andrea received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Communication from Denison University. Her educational background provides her with a unique blend of business acumen and a deep understanding of human behavior. In her free time, Andrea enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, and spending time with her family and friends.
Andrew Hesch
BOARD MEMBER
Currently a commercial banker with Huntington Bank, Andrew specializes in lending to nonprofits, governments, and universities. He has spent 10 years in commercial banking with companies, institutions, and organizations of various sizes and industries. In addition to his charitable work with Adjust Your Sails Foundation, Andrew is the Southwest Ohio co-director for All Aboard Ohio, working to improve local transit connectivity and expand passenger rail access throughout Ohio. He co-founded COVstreets, a grassroots project for a comprehensive streetscape plan to improve street safety and efficiency in Covington, Kentucky. Andrew received his Bachelors of Arts in Economics from Denison University. He resides in Cincinnati with his spouse, Andrea, and their two cats, Oliver & Oscar. His hobbies include golfing, skiing, traveling, and gardening.
Tim McKenna-Buchanan, Ph.D.
BOARD MEMBER
Dr. Tim McKenna-Buchanan has been a professor and academic leader at Manchester University for 12 years, where he serves as Chair of the Department of Arts, Communication and Music, and as the Accreditation Liaison Officer for Manchester with the Higher Learning Commission. He received his Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Ohio University, and holds a Masters of Science in Communication from Illinois State University and a Bachelors of Science in Communication from Wayne State College. He is passionate about helping individuals develop confidence and connect their education to meaningful lives and careers. Beyond his professional work, Tim values community and giving back to the people and organizations that make a difference in the lives of others.
The Adjust Your Sails Foundation is especially meaningful to Tim because it reflects the importance of community, compassion, and helping others navigate life’s challenges. Tim and Elizabeth Schilling were part of the same community, and learning more about her life and the foundation has made the connection feel more personal. He discovered that they shared some of life’s simple joys: a love of musicals and good margaritas. Supporting Adjust Your Sails is Tim’s way of honoring Elizabeth’s spirit while giving back to a community and a mission he deeply believes in.
Adrienne Fisher
BOARD MEMBER
Adrienne Fisher is cybersecurity and risk professional with a focus on third-party risk. She is a graduate of the University of Toledo and Capital University Law School. She grew up in a small town in central Ohio and currently resides in a suburb of Columbus where she enjoys gardening.
